Lonely Planet 1. edition - 1987
By Paul Solheim @ 11:29 AM :: 3757 Views :: 1 Comments ::

Warning - excepts from the first edition of Lonely Planet, july 1987.

Entertainment in Huaraz

There are two cinemas in town - English language movies are sometimes shown. There are also several bars, discos and penas. One of my favourites is the Imantata Bar which is a peculiarly low-roofed establishment for drinking and dancing. It gets underway at about 10 pm and is popular with trekkers and climbers as well as locals.

A new bar which quickly bacame one of the main climbers hangouts is the Tasco Bar at Lucar Y Torre 380, the small street off Morales and a block east of Luzuriaga. For a more typical Peruvian evening, you might want to try the Pena El Dorado, a couple of blocks away. There is sometimes some good live music here. The Pena La Pascana is another possibility.

For dancing try the inexpensive Discotec Any or the fancier El Palomar Bar. The promisingly named Paccha'k Pub looks good but is very quiet most nights. Bear in mind that there is much less entertainment out of the tourist season.

That was it from the 1987 1. edition of The Lonely Planet.

How did it go?

Did you recognize any names and places from almost 20 years ago?

How about taking a map and trying to locate any of the places mentioned?

A easy to read list of places with their status today would have been nice. Otherwise a nice idea, would like more stuff from the old days.
