Places to stay in Huaraz - bottom end
Probably the cheapest place in town is the basic but adequate Hostal Tabariz which charges 70c per person and sometimes has hot water in the communal showers. Two small, family-run places are the Alojamiento Quintana and the Pension Galaxia. Both charge about US$1 per person and have hot water in the communal showers. They are basic, but clean and friendly and are recommended. Also about US$1 per person is the friendly Hostal Alpamayo, which has hot water in the mornings, and the Pension Maguina, which has a very small sign but is right opposite the Rodriguez bus terminal. They also have hot water some of the time. These prices may be slightly higher at the height of the tourist season.
For about US$1.30 per person you can stay at the Hotel Premier which has spacious rooms, some with private bath, but an erratic hot water supply. There are no singles. Similarly priced but not as good is Hostal San Isidro. The Hotel Barcelona has great mountain views from the balconies but only cold water. They charge from US$1.50 per person and more in rooms with showers.
Edward's Inn is friendly, has hot water, laundry facilities and a cafeteria, and is popular with international backpackers. It is slightly out of the way and quiet. Edward speaks English and is a source of tourist information. Rooms are simple but clean and cost US$2 per person with private shower and a little cheaper without. Also friendly and with hot water and laundry facilities is the similarly priced Hotel Los Andes.
The Hostal Huaraz is rather run down but does have hot water. The Hotel Landauro charges US$2.70 for a double room with cold water in the communal shower and have more expensive rooms with private shower. The Hotel Cataluna is US$2/3.30 for singles/doubles with bath. The rooms are small but the beds comfortable. Hot water is available although it tends to be a bit brown and you must ask to have it turned on. There are excellent views from the balconies.
The Hostal Yanett is clean, friendly, has a small garden and is recommended. Also good, friendly and clean is the Hostal El Pacifico. The last hotel in this price range is the Hostal Raimondi which has a pleasant courtyard and is a clean and long established Huaraz hotel. |
