Karl Grobl - Peru Photogallery

Peru , "land of the Inca", the thin Andean air induces a hypoxic euphoria that enchants and mystifies visitors. Its a country of seemingly distinct personalities, traditions, and folklore whose people share the common bond of a proud yet turbulent history. Peru beckons the intrepid traveler with a dizzying array of possibilities. From its lush Amazon basin to its precariously-perched mountain top citadels, Peru rewards the adventurous with memories not easily forgotten.

VISITING PERU, Or: "The Inca Trail is not for me"

Legend has it that the Inca king Manco Capac, "the Son of the Sun", founded Cusco around the twelfth century. Cusco became "the Earth's Navel" and for hundreds of years, was the center of the Western hemisphere's most powerful empire. Nowadays, it is a small and quiet town in spite of being a tourist center and base for excursions to the ruins of Machu Picchu.

Lake in The Sky

All photos and text by Craig D. Guillot. This article originally appeared in the St.
Petersburg Times.

COPACABANA, BOLIVIA – The driver rammed the throttle with all his might but the
boat would hardly budge. As he wrestled the engines controls – nothing more than a
wrench welded to a piece of rebar – we slowly propelled back into the choppy
waters. Countless islands and baby blue waters lay ahead of us but the ice-cold
breezes and snow-capped mountains were stark reminders that I was far from the
ocean.

Peru - October 2003

Up until my trip to Peru, I knew absolutely nothing about the country, except of course that it had one of the great ancient temples in the world that I had to see, Machu Picchu. Seeing the opportunity to learn and explore a culture that I knew nothing about, I jumped at the chance for this new adventure.

G.A.P. Adventures

Why G.A.P?

Over the years our company has changed. From a one-man show in a tiny office, to a team of close to two hundred staff working around the globe; and from a few trips in Ecuador, Belize and Peru, to hundreds of adventures and seven diverse trip styles, spanning the entire globe. It's safe to say we have come a long way. One thing that hasn't changed is our passion for getting behind the scenes, checking out the real world, and taking you with us. This sense for adventure, to seek out new experiences, is what drives us, and what keeps our clients coming back for more.

Qosqo the Inka's sacred Capital - An online Guide

Qosqo, the most important pre-Columbian metropolis in the American Continent, is heir of a cultural tradition developed all over the Peruvian territory since 18 thousand years B.C. It is a living museum where it is still possible to perceive grandeur of remote epochs. A total description or interpretation of Qosqo would be a gigantic work requiring thousands of books. This "Navel of the World" has developed one of the most advanced old civilizations on the earth. The name "Qosqo" is used the way our authorities and our consciences state it; I believe that it is a moral duty of every son of this sacred land to recover its past.

The present work is an attempt to summarize what is outstanding in the city and its region.

South American Explorers.org

Hello! Welcome to South American Explorers.org

While the internet is growing with flashy websites about South America, only SAE provide personal help and attention to details backed up with nearly 30 years of experience. That’s how long we’ve been answering questions, helping scientists, researchers, teachers and others heading to South America, and maintaining clubhouses that provide travelers with a "home away from home".

The Lima clubhouse is the oldest and has been in operation since 1977. For 25 years, members made their way to Breña to visit the Lima clubhouse. But this changed in April 2002, when the clubhouse moved to new and classier quarters in Miraflores.
